Love yourself enough to self-treat everyday. As a physical therapist trained in the John F Barnes Myofascial Release Approach, I encourage my patients to self-treat everyday. What do I mean by self-treat? I mean taking the time out of everyday to take care of you. We’ve all heard “you can’t pour from an empty cup”. I get that you’re a busy mom and your co-workers are relying on you to get shit done day in and day out. You’re running your kids from here to there after school and there’s yet another dinner eaten in the car or while sitting on the bleachers during practice or games. Are you a mom who’s experienced the dreadful peeing accident during a workout? When simply coughing or sneezing? Or have you ever had a sudden loss of urine when trying to get to the restroom in time? I remember the first time this happened to me, shortly after giving birth to my first daughter more than 13 years ago. I was ashamed that I couldn’t even stop the flow of urine and peed my pants, right inside my home. My husband was sympathetic but I was so ashamed, and even worse, I was worried that it would happen again. What if it happened when I was out getting groceries or at a friend’s house?
