What Your Poop Says About You

What your poop says about you

Ever wonder what your poop says about you? Probably not, huh? Most people don’t talk about their bowel movements unless they’re having a problem, but understanding your poop can be a key indicator of your digestive health. Maybe I’m a bit weird, but I find it fun to teach my patients about the different types of poop and what’s healthy.

Why Bother Thinking About Poop?

Let’s dive right in—after all, you probably don’t think much about pooping unless you’re having a hard time going .If you strain and strain, or you have to really push to get things out, it might be time to pay closer attention. Do you only go every few days, or maybe just once a week? Are your stools loose, making you worry about getting away from the toilet to run errands or live your life? If you have to wipe and wipe to get clean after a bowel movement, it’s worth considering what your poop is trying to tell you.

What Your Poop Says About Your Digestive Health

Take a peek at this Bristol Stool Chart (link to: https://www.mypfm.com/post/the-bristol-stool-chart) to find out the different “types” of poop and what your normal type may be. Understanding the different types of bowel movements can help you identify if something might be off with your digestive system. You want to aim for types 3 or 4 using the Bristol Stool chart.

Hard, Difficult-to-Pass Stools

If you tend to have poops that are on the harder side, leaning more toward constipation, there are ways to massage your colon to make things easier. Constipation can lead to discomfort, bloating, and even more serious issues if left unaddressed.
